Four suspects arrested for alleged taxi violence in Wynburg

Police arrest four suspects for attempted murder in Wynberg.

Metro police K9 officers have arrested four suspects for alleged taxi violence in Wynburg.

According to Metro police chief David Tembe, police responded to the scene at Lafarge ReadyMix Company.

“Upon arrival, workers of the company pointed to a building where the suspects went in, and outside there were two abandoned vehicles, a Black Audi A6 [peppered] with multiple gunshots and a champagne Toyota Corolla also with multiple gunshots. While searching the premises, one suspect was arrested with one rifle and one pistol on him. The suspect was handcuffed… and the Toyota Corolla was searched and two pistols were recovered.”

Tembe said the police called for backup and three more suspects were arrested in possession of two pistols and one rifle.

“In total, four suspects were arrested with five pistols and two rifles. The suspects were interviewed and it is alleged that they work for VIP Protection from KwaZulu-Natal. It was also discovered that there was a serious shootout between the so-called VIP Protection and security [personnel] guarding the taxi association in Wynberg.”

Tembe added that police members who deal with taxi violence were called to the scene.

All four suspects were arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station for attempted murder and both vehicles were booked in for investigation.
