Total shutdown protest leaders roll up their sleeves to clean up the streets of Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – The shutdown movement keeps the spirit of discipline and peaceful protest by cleaning up the neighbourhood.

The coordinators of the #AlexTotalShutdown protest have urged residents and community members of Alexandra to come into the party in ensuring that the garbage is collected on the streets.

The protest coordinators and the community members recently embarked in a neighbourhood cleaning campaign, collecting illegally dumped garbage on the streets. They also collected garbage and trimmed grass at the Alexandra cemetery.

The spokesperson of the #AlexTotalShutdown Movement, Bobby Solomons, said the cleaning campaign was aimed at raising awareness and educating community members about the importance of being a responsible citizen.

“In keeping with the spirit of discipline and responsible citizenship, we as the #AlexTotalShutdown Movement have decided to mobilise the community to embark in this cleaning campaign. We hope that the government and Pikitup will come into the party and join hands with us in our next cleaning campaign by dispatching trucks to collect the refuse,” Solomon said.

Solomon said the movement will continue working with the community to ensure that service delivery takes place in the area.
