23 years of dashed hope stops man from voting

ALEXANDRA – A 33-year-old local is contemplating returning to head cattle at his rural home if no drastic changes are made.

An Alex man had no kind works for political parties days before the elections as he feels that their actions and broken promises have left him poorer.

The 33-year-old Sfiso Xaba is contemplating returning to head cattle at his KwaZulu-Natal rural home if no drastic changes in conduct, commitment and action are made by particularly leading parties that are contesting the elections.

“I voted for the ANC in the last three national elections but this time, I will withhold my vote as they haven’t done anything for me in the last 23 years of dashed hope and waiting which has turned to desperation.

“Those in leadership have instead enriched themselves, their families and other well connected in the hierarchy of power,” Xaba said.

Still searching for a job and opting to go back to school to further his chance of employment, he said the only power and dignity he still retains is the vote which no one can force him to dispense with.

“I will only vote if President Ramaphosa donates a billion rand of his money with strict orders and a contract to a company to construct houses with no middleman from government,” he said.

Xaba dismissed the DA claiming that Mmusi Maimane wants a hold on power to entrench himself through the national purse. “He will claim for eight years to clean up the ANC’s at the expense of service delivery while, in earnest, his members will also be looting and further impoverishing the citizens,” he said.

He was also ambivalent about the EFF saying, despite their youth and familiarity with challenges facing the youth, its leaders were inexperienced and excitable. “I may warm up to them after eight years of growth, development and maturity.

“They too have a blemish from occasional revelations that tarnish their leaders.”

He commended the party for engineering the downfall of former president Jacob Zuma for a similar indiscretion. “They exposed the corruption which permeates all three spheres of government with the rot at municipal level so gross and directly responsible for impoverishing and dis-empowering and denying the poor, basic services.”

He pointed to mayors being indicted for corruption and commissions of inquiry which continue to finger out politicians and senior government officials for fraud, bribery and mismanagement as indictments to political parties. “Politicians kills each other for access and control of resource and others spend more time in and out of courts on corruption charges than in service to communities.”

He said citizens saw through these shenanigans but voted through desperation only to regret when promises were broken. He also claimed that there was no services delivery while public resources disappeared.

His desperation for a steady job has forced him to attend courses but to no avail. “I have spent about R25 000 for training including in the security, VIP protection and construction industry and driving licence without success as prospective employers require work experience.”

He is worried about the accumulated certificates expiring and they require an additional cost to renew them. Xaba also decried the blaming of the unemployment whose anger is sometimes deflected on innocent foreign nationals and results in xenophobia. “They act out of desperation as no one wants to address the facts even some without proper documentation are employed at the expense of citizens.”
