Community members embark in a war against littering and illegal dumping

ALEXANDRA – Community members were at the local park as early as 6am, ready to clean up the streets and local parks.

The community members of Far East Bank recently embarked in a neighbourhood street cleaning campaign to clean up the streets.

Scores of people converged in a local park as early as 6am, ready to clean up the streets and local parks.

According to the community leader and organiser of a cleaning campaign Mandla Msibi, the initiative was aimed at making streets of Far East Bank garbage free and educate community members about the effects of illegal dumping and littering to the environment.

“Our streets have become a dumping site because of people who are not well informed about the effects of illegal dumping on the environment. With this initiative, we want to keep our streets clean while teaching people our people about the effects of illegal dumping on our environment,” Msibi said.

“We encourage residents to take out their garbage until 9am every Tuesdays and Thursdays so that when Pikitup trucks come, the refuse bags are all out.”

Msibi has urged community members to join forces with them in their next operation against filthiness and illegal dumping in the area.

“We call upon all homeowners and residents of Far East Bank to join us in this war against illegal dumping. I can assure you that we will win this battle if all members of the community come on board. We should not promote a bad culture in which people wait for the government to do everything for them.”
