Thumbs up for parents’ involvement at MC Weiller Primary School

ALEX – The principal of MC Weiller Primary School was extremely impressed by the way in which parents get involved with their children's day-to-day school work.

The principal of MC Weiller Primary School Flaki Ramothata has lauded parents in her school for what she called active parenting and involvement in their children’s school life.

More than 260 Grade 1 learners were already in the classrooms to start their 12-year journey of education in the MC Weiller Primary School this year.

Speaking to the Alex News on the first day of 2019 academic year, Ramothata said she was extremely impressed by the way in which parents get involved with their children’s day-to-day school work.

“I am grateful that parents and guardians have reached a level of understanding their role in children’s day to day school life,” she said.

“Parents, especially here in Alex, used to dump their children in the school but that has changed significantly in the past few years. We see parents getting involved, coming to school to enquire about their children’s performance in the classroom which is what educators need the most to interact with parents.”

Ramothata said the school has welcomed more than 260 Grade 1 learners this year and were expecting the number to grow when those who did not apply with the department of education online system come to register their children later this month.

She urged parents and guardians to utilise the system which is meant to make things easier for the department to prepare itself accordingly. “The only challenge we are faced with this year and previous years are the parents who don’t want to apply for their children in the department’s online system which opens from April to December. I think that where the gap is, especially parents who bring their children from other provinces they don’t understand how we do things here in Gauteng.”
