Suspect under mental observation after he allegedly murdered his sick father

ALEXANDRA – Court awaits son's mental report following dad's death

An Alex man who allegedly murdered his sick father was admitted for mental observation at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.

The victim died at the same hospital on 11 December seemingly from injuries sustained during the day on 7 December in an altercation with the 36-year-old-suspect.

The victim was found unconscious in the house in the evening by the wife when she returned from work. A neighbour is said to have taken him to the hospital after the accused confessed to them about the altercation.

The wife left him in bed with the son in the house.

A neighbour who heard wails from the house while slaughtering chickens outside called the accused who denied anything untoward happening.

The neighbour who helped to take him to hospital knocked on the door but the accused refused to open also telling him that everything was okay.

His mother found the deceased unconscious in a passage with a bloodied nose and bruised face.

The accused who was on a sofa claimed that the altercation resulted from a misunderstanding.

He was arrested by Alexandra Police Station officers on 15 December, three days after the death and sent for the observation under guard.

His court appearance is dependant on the outcome of the observation.
