Orphan centre celebrates playground

ALEXANDRA - An orphan centre celebrates a playground designed by students from a California university.

Ratang Bana, an organisation that cares for impoverished children in Alexandra, formerly opened its playground to the community.

This was in conjunction with Kid Links, an American organisation that assists orphan centres.

The playground was designed by students of CalPoly, a university in California. Each of the students had an element of their design implemented in the playground and also built the playground. Kid Links donated materials for the playground and also helped with construction.

Ingrid Moloi who manages the centre said she was happy that Kid Links could assist them. “The party is going according to plan and the kids will have a playground so I am really excited,” she said.

Although the playground was incomplete on the day, the centre had a pre-party and also welcomed the community to join in the celebration. Dave Watt of Kid Links said it was a privilege to build the playground. “Ingrid is a lovely person and after we helped with the garden in 2012 we knew we had to do something else,” he said.
