Bramley police welcomes sentencing of robber to 10 years in prison

BRAMLEY – The robber was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Bramley police have welcomed the sentencing of a man who robbed of his victim a cellphone while visiting a gravesite in Marlboro in July.

Kgomotso Munyai was sentenced to 10 years at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 12 December for armed robbery.

The 24-year-old attacked his victim while visiting the Marlboro Cemetery, said the police.

According to the spokesperson for the Bramley police, Captain Molefe Mogotsi, the victim was busy working on a tombstone when the robbery took place.

Mogotsi said Munyai attacked his victim and threatened him with a firearm, demanding his cellphone.

He then took it and fled the scene. Mogotsi said the victim then alerted members of the community who managed to track the perpetrator.

“They then gave chase until he was cornered and apprehended in Alexandra,” said Mogotsi.

“Munyai was then brought to the police station and a complainant opened a case and a docket was assigned to a dedicated detective for investigation. Munyai was then charged with robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

He then stood trial at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court until he was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment.

Mogotsi added that the court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Bramley police management has congratulated the dedication of the detective for a job well done, said Mogotsi.

“We also wish to thank the community of Alexandra who said ‘crime must fall’ on that day, for their role in apprehending the man,” he said.
