#ICYMI: Water safety tips this summer

JOBURG – Nicki Taylor Riley gives some water safety tips for December holidays.

South Africa has witnessed a number of heat waves in the past few weeks.

To cool down, many people take a swim in the sea, dams or swimming pools and this is when emergency services find themselves with their hands full attending to drowning incidents. The question is, how to avoid this from happening?

Nicki Taylor Riley of Super Star Swimming gives some tips on how to avoid these incidents at our homes.

Here are five tips on water safety for the December holidays:

  • Keep the pool gate closed and pool net on if you are not around your children over the school holidays
  • Teach your children to put armbands on when they are around the pool area or near any form of water
  • Place a waterproof band with your contact number written on it when you go to the beach
  • Place all emergency numbers on the fridge for quick call access
  • Create a safe buddy system with your children when at the sea or other bodies of water.
