Flying squad determined to combat crime

JOBURG – The Johannesburg Flying Squad reports some successes in their efforts to curb crime.

 

Members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested 10 suspects for various crimes in different parts of Johannesburg.

During the arrests, which were made between 9 to 12 November, members of the squad recovered three unlicensed firearms, five hijacked vehicles and two stolen vehicles.

In another operation which formed part of routine patrol duties, the members arrested six suspects for armed robbery, one for common robbery, and three for possession of unlicensed firearms.

The members also recovered the five hijacked vehicles – two Toyota Corollas, a Hyundai, a Nissan truck and a Mercedes Benz, the two stolen vehicles – a Mazda BT50 and a Toyota Yaris, and three unlicensed firearms – a Junior 6.35, a 9mm pistol and a Girsan pistol.

Spokesperson for the Flying Squad, Sergeant Desmond Subramoney said his members were determined to rid communities of the scourge of crime. He added that members of the public are, in turn, encouraged to work closely with police in their fight against crime and criminal elements within communities.

All ten suspects, who are between 23 and 37, will appear in different courts within Johannesburg soon to face varying charges.
