Uncle’s attempted murderer detained

ALEXANDRA – Uncle survives 'contract killing' by taxi driver nephew now in custody.

A man who confessed to police to the attempted murder of a relative was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

The 22-year-old accused, who tried to kill an uncle claiming it was a R30 000-contract killing, committed the offence along the R55 in Olievenbosch in September with four others who are at large. After the incident, he disappeared and was arrested in October while driving a taxi. This after police showed him CCTV footage of his taxi at a petrol station near the crime scene soon after the incident.

The gang raided the victim’s house and kidnapped him and his daughter but later dropped off the daughter. They took the victim to a spot along the road where they shot him and left him for dead. He survived and walked back to the Olievenbosch Police Station dripping blood and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

He and his daughter both identified the accused to the police leading to his arrest.

The victim seemingly once accommodated him and the offence was allegedly a ploy to get rid of the family from the house which he wanted to take over.
