Cop’s kidnapper, attempted murderer fires state rep

ALEXANDRA – Case of attempted murder of a cop has been postponed to 8 November.

A man charged with attempted murder of a police officer last year will confirm his new legal representative at Alex Magistrates’ Court on 8 November.

Twenty-eight-year-old from Vosloorus was remanded in custody for the offence which occurred October last year and ended with his accomplice being shot dead by the police. His several court appearances were postponed with the last hearing held on 21 September where he terminated his state legal representative’s services.

The incident started near Maningi Scrap Yard, Marlboro where the two suspects are said to have snuck up on a police officer who was in a parked vehicle waiting for a colleague on patrol. One of the suspects allegedly pinned a gun against the officer’s head and they hijacked the vehicle, with him inside, and drove to Kyalami.

A police alert was raised and when the hijacked vehicle was spotted in that area, a shoot-out ensued between the suspects and the police. One of the two allegedly shot the kidnapped officer, critically injuring him. The officer spent some time in the hospital undergoing treatment.

The accomplice was fatally wounded in the exchange of fire and the accused was overpowered and arrested.
