Young leaders sought for summit

JOBURG - The City of Johannesburg is looking for young people between the ages of 18 and 30 with leadership qualities, to represent Johannesburg at the One Young World Summit to take place from 2 to 5 October at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

The summit will give delegates the opportunity to interact directly with some of the world’s leading politicians, business leaders and campaigners.

These include United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada, former South Africa rugby captain Francois Pienaar, former Wimbledon tennis champion Boris Becker and astronaut Ron Garan.

About 1 500 young leaders from 180 countries around the world, will address solutions to challenges in fields such as education, global business, human rights, sustainable development and transparency.

Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau expressed confidence that the summit would have a lasting impact on critical choices that needed to be made, to ensure a safe and prosperous future for next generations. “The event gives the leaders of tomorrow a voice today,” he said.

The City of Johannesburg is looking to sponsor 20 young, dynamic leaders dedicated to change.
