A group of Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors who call themselves Friends of Kwabhekilanga donated and planted 16 trees on KwaBhekilanga High School’s sports fields.

According to Kay Lockwood of Friends of KwaBhekilanga, the sports fields are of the few in Alexandra that cater to both soccer and rugby. It is also used by the local community for music events, athletics and personal training purposes.
“As these trees grow, they will play an important role of enhancing the environment by combating soil erosion, creating a green bet in the neighbourhood and providing shade for spectators,” Lockwood said.

“The sports facility is popularly used by more than 200 local youngsters for rugby, soccer and other sporting codes.”
The organisation has promised to continue lending help to support local sports and youth development in the area.
