Police get closer

ALEXANDRA – Police get closer and closer to ensure perpetrators are behind bars.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said they are hot on the heels of suspects who shot and killed three taxi owners last month.

According to Alexandra Police Station Spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatjie, progress has been made in three cases of murder and one of attempted murder. “Yes, there are positive developments as our investigation has started immediately after the incidents but [it is] not [information] that we can share with the public for now,” said Malatjie.

This was after Alexandra Randburg Midrand Sandton Taxi Association (Armsta) Chairperson Sam Budzwa together with Fani Ramantshwana a member of the association was shot and killed in Marlboro on 12 July evening. Two weeks later another Armsta member, Isaac Sereti, was gunned down at the gate of his home in Tsutsumani on Tuesday 23 July.

President of the Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Galxcoc) Mpho Motshomi was expected to meet with the taxi association’s leadership in the meantime to discuss the matter and find a way forward.
