River Park upcoming hip-hop artist thanks his parents for their guidance

ALEXANDRA – Lollipop flies River Park's flag high at the South African Upcoming Music Awards.

 

Hard work, dedication and consistency have paid off for a 21-year-old upcoming hip-hop artist Mpho ‘Lollipop’ Ndlovu from River Park.

He grew up in Phalaborwa, Limpopo where he started his musical journey at the age of 12 with a group called Phalaborwa KwaiRap.

In 2015 Lollipop moved to Johannesburg to pursue his music career. With the financial support from his family, he recorded his first album titled Khumbula (Remember) which had seven tracks and sold more than 400 copies in 2015.

He said if it was not for his parents who made him choose between soccer and music, he would not be where he is today.

“When I was stuck between soccer and music my parents told me that they were going to support me in one project and I had to choose one which happened to be music,” he said.

On 13 May this year Lollipop was nominated for the Best Hip-hop Artist and Best Collaboration Song in the South African Upcoming Music Awards (Sauma) hosted by DJ V-neck and Huvera Entertainment which promotes and showcases the work of upcoming artists in South Africa.

He managed to bring home Best Collaboration Song Award with a song called Madibuseng (Let’s rule) which he recorded with Eazy Tee on his album.

Lollipop will later this year drop his second album called Tswara mo (Hold here) in which he teamed up with Tatenda Chasiweka from Zimbabwe and DJ SimzthaDon.
