Persistent Music Project faces a shutdown due to financial constraints

ALEXANDRA – Music project in desperate need of financial help due to the large number of children they had registered this year.

A non-profit organisation from Alexandra, Persistent Music Project, which offers free theory and practical music lessons to children from three local primary schools Carter, Ikageng and Iphutheng, is pleading for help from donors.

The founder and chairperson of the organisation, William Bapela, said they were in desperate need of financial help due to the large number of children they had registered this year.

“The project is currently providing theory lessons to 498 children from three schools but for only 23 of those children we are able to offer practical lessons due to a shortage of musical instruments and teachers,” said Bapela

He added that they were also unable to provide transport fees for their volunteer music teachers due to a lack of funds.

“Our project has dedicated and passionate teachers who love what they do but they are unable to offer their services as much as they would like to due to financial strains. We are pleading with anyone with a love for young talent development to help us with what they can afford so that we could keep this project running.”

Violin teacher Mpho Ramorule, who joined the project in 2013 out of the love for music and youth development, said he was grateful to be part of such an initiative that invested in the future. He urged anyone that could, to lend a helping hand to the organisation so that they could continue with the good work.
