PSL boss Khoza says Jordaan’s accusations are a figment of his fertile imagination

JOBURG - PSL boss Dr Irvin 'Iron Duke' Khoza has hit back at Safa president Dr Danny Jordaan.

The daggers have been drawn as the simmering feud between South Africa’s top football administrators reaches boiling point.

Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza told media at a press conference at the league’s headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg, that he unequivocally distances himself from the allegations levelled against him by the president of the South African Football Association (Safa) Dr Danny Jordaan.

Jordaan has accused Khoza of conspiring with Jordaan’s rape accuser, Jennifer Ferguson, to trump up the allegations of sexual molestation against him. Ferguson, an ANC MP and former singer, had laid a charge of rape against Jordaan accusing him of raping her in a hotel in Port Elizabeth 25 years ago.

“I must put it on record that I unequivocally deny any knowledge of the said plot to smear Jordaan and can confirm here that I don’t know the Ferguson woman and I have never met her,” said Khoza who is also the chairperson of the Orlando Pirates Football Club.

“These allegations against me are nothing but a figment of Jordaan’s fertile imagination.”

Khoza’s press conference comes in the wake of one held by Jordaan at which he revealed the alleged plot of a smear campaign against him.

Jordaan has laid a counter-charge of defamation, criminal collusion and conspiracy against Ferguson and Khoza. The Safa boss is said to be in possession of emails exchanged between Khoza, Ferguson and a travel agent, Fli Afrika, in which Khoza is said to have paid for Ferguson’s travels and accommodation using his credit card.

Khoza believes the allegations being levelled against him ‘are part of a pattern of conspiracy theories designed to divert attention from the real problem or aggressor, and portraying the aggressor as the victim’.

“At one time, Jordaan was shot at and I was the prime suspect,” said Khoza. “In 2010, I was accused of plotting a coup against Jordaan as Safa president.”

He described Jordaan as ‘a slick person who often attacks people in public and apologises to them in private’.

“This is a bridge too far. I am not going to sleep but will ensure that I seek justice to clear my name. I have nothing to do with this case [the rape accusation laid against Jordaan by Ferguson].

“These charges are unfounded, malicious and an abuse of state resources. I refuse to be used by Jordaan as a scapegoat for his own problems.”

The PSL boss added that he had nothing personal against Jordaan as the two of them have worked and achieved so much together. He demanded that he be given the documents that prove he had colluded with Ferguson.

“I don’t want to fight a black cat in the dark, as this is what is happening now. They must furnish me the documents.”
