Young communicators honoured
JOBURG - Anglo American's Young Communicator Ambassadors for Gauteng have been announced, and the overall winner, Thuto-ya-Kgoro Secondary School's Buthi Mbatha will compete in the national finals in September.
Gauteng’s budding future leaders have been honoured for their public speaking and debating skills at the provincial finals of the Young Communicator Ambassadors.
Pupil, Buthi Mbatha of Kgoro-Ya-Thuto Secondary School emerged as the Gauteng representative in the national finals which will be held next month.
The annual event is sponsored by Anglo American and presented in partnership with the Department of Basic Education. It seeks to hone the public speaking and debating skills of pupils in grades 11 and 12 in public schools whose first language is not English.
Since its inception in 1994, the programme has served to provide exposure for talented young South Africans, improve their oral and presentation proficiency, and provide them with the confidence required to become exceptional leaders. Even though there is ultimately one winner, all those who participate walk away with invaluable experience, personal growth and a greater sense of self-confidence.
Mbatha won R1 000 and will represent Gauteng at the 2013 national finals in September, after delivering his insightful and thought provoking speech, titled Abortion; Question Marks. The winner in the national finals will walk away with R60 000 towards their first year of tertiary studies.
