Vicki Momberg’s application for leave to appeal postponed
Vicki Momberg’s attempt to appeal against her two-year jail sentence has been postponed to 11 April.
She appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court where the defence requested a postponement. Addressing the court, Momberg’s lawyer, Kingdom Onah, told the court that their advocate, Kevin Lawlor, was not well so they could not prepare fully for the appeal application.

The defence has expressed confidence that they believe that Magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan’s sentence and conviction will be overturned. Onah said they believe that Rugoonandan didn’t take into consideration some of the evidence led by the defence during the trial.
Momberg was found guilty on four counts of crimen injuria. She was sentenced to two years imprisonment. She remains in custody, pending the appeal application.

The case against the 39-year-old father and former teacher accused of rape was remanded in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for a formal bail application.

The 39-year-old is accused of raping his own eight-year-old son. He handed himself over to police on 16 March and has been in custody since.
- Alleged Metro cops killer remains behind bars
The case against the man accused of killing two Metro police officers has been postponed to 2 May for further investigation.
Albert Pretorius (41) of Paulshof appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, facing two counts of culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol. Pretorius is accused of killing two Metro police officers, Winnie Mokgolo and Sophie Ngoasheng on 29 January at a roadblock on Witkoppen Road in Fourways. The state alleged that at the time of the accident, Pretorius was driving his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

On 29 January, the accused allegedly crashed into parked vehicles at a roadblock, killing two officers and injuring others. He was arrested shortly after the accident.
In February, the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court denied Pretorius bail. He remains in custody.
- Alleged corrupt cop
The case against Linden police officer, Captain Charles Samuels was postponed to 2 May at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court. Samuels is facing a corruption charge after he was said to have accepted a R9 000 bribe from the father of an alleged drunk driver.
He is currently out on R6 000 bail.
