Attempted murder charge

ALEXANDRA – Man's threats, warning shots get him attempted murder charges.

 

A 24-year-old Alex man from Ext 8, who allegedly pointed a gun at two brothers he accused of stealing a battery from his motor vehicle, was denied bail by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

He is facing attempted murder charges and will be back in court on 19 March to confirm his legal representation.

The suspect and a companion met the victims who reside in the same area in the street at midnight on 9 March. He allegedly accused them of stealing the battery and demanded they return it. When they denied knowledge of the battery and claimed to be looking for their lost puppy, the suspect allegedly drew out a gun and ordered them to return the battery or they would be killed. As they continued to plead ignorance of the battery, he shot in the air while the companion allegedly urged him to shoot them. This he said was a warning.

The suspect let them go and when they returned, they found the two on the same spot and repeated the demand prompting one victim to ask him to come and check for it in their vehicle but, he refused, saying all he wanted was his battery. He let them go and they reported the incident at the Alex Police Station leading to his arrest.
