Phuthaditjhaba benefits from Clover Cream O’Naise sandwiches

JOBURG - The hungry of Alexandra were among the beneficiaries of sandwiches from Clover's feat of breaking the Guinness World Record.

Phuthaditjhaba Centre in Alexandra will be one of the three beneficiaries of the sandwiches from a Clover Cream O’Naise Guinness World Record which was successfully broken with the longest line of sandwiches measuring 4, 4km.

The previous record, which was held by Spain for the longest sandwiches measuring 3, 8km, was broken in a second attempt by Clover on 3 March at the Maponya Mall in Soweto after an earlier attempt was rained-off in October last year.

“We did it,” shouted Clover’s senior brand manager Edith Molepo when the news of the new record holder was announced by Guinness World Record official adjudicator Paulina Sapinska to the delight of Clover staff and well-wishers who had come to witness the event.

“Months and month of planning finally paid off, with the awesome weather and a fantastic team alongside us, we are absolutely thrilled to have secured our first-ever Guinness World Record title,” she said.

The record-breaking act was made possible by the use of 500 litres of Cream O’Naise, 8 100 50cm-long baguettes, 2 600kg of grated Clover cheese and 800kg of lettuce.

After breaking the record, the Cream O’Naise team sectioned out a large portion of the sandwiches and shared them with children at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, CHOC and the Bramley-based Gift of the Givers Foundation, which feed the hungry of Alexandra.

Gift of the Givers’ Emily Thomas said their portion of the sandwiches would be delivered to communities in need in Alexandra, Orange Farm, Soweto and Riverlea. “We’re grateful to Clover for recognising the work we do among communities and for choosing us as their partners in the distribution of the sandwiches.”
