Alarm saves car

ALEXANDRA – Churchman's car saved from hijackers.

An alarm saved the vehicle of a churchman from alleged theft. According to Alex Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang, the attempted theft occurred near a church on 19th Avenue at midnight on 24 January.

The victim left the vehicle windows closed and doors locked and when he returned to it, he found someone seated on the drivers’ side. When he identified himself as the vehicle owner, another suspect approached from behind, threatened him with a gun and demanded the vehicle keys which he handed over. When the armed suspect opened the vehicle to join his accomplice inside, the alarm was triggered causing the suspects to flee with the keys, victim’s ID document, driver’s licence, wallet with bank cards and R200 in cash.

One of the vehicle’s back windows was also broken.
