Meeting of soccer veterans

ALEXANDRA - Alex football veterans are to document the history of the beautiful game in the township.

The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association has plans to produce a book that documents the history of football in the township, dating back to the founding of the association in 1936.

This was announced by the president of the association, Maisha Molepo, who called on all Alex football veterans to a meeting on 28 January that will help coordinate the documenting of the history of football in the township.

The meeting, which takes place at the Alexandra Stadium, will start at 11am and retired former president of the association, Simon Raphael Selepe has been appointed coordinator of the process.

Molepo clarified the matter of veterans versus legends, saying veterans were former administrators, players, refs, linesmen and women over 50 years old while legends were those below that age.

“The people we want at the meeting are those above age 50, so we can share their forgotten stories while documenting the history of football in the township and how it has evolved over the years.

“I call upon all our veterans, those still living within Alex or those that can still travel from wherever they are in the four corners of the country to come and attend this crucial meeting,” he said.
