Police investigate murder and attempted murder cases

ALEXANDRA – Murder suspect wanted, one nabbed for stabbing woman.

 

Alex police are investigating a murder which occurred on 14 January early in the morning at Nobuhle Hostel on 5th Avenue.

The murder happened during a week when a woman narrowly escaped death when she was stabbed by someone whom she owed some money.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the police were called to the scene where they found the body with several stab wounds.

The deceased’s brother identified him as Thokozani Gazu (30) who lived on 3rd Avenue. Paramedics certified him dead on the scene before taking the body to a government mortuary.

The woman who owed the attacker R50 was allegedly stabbed in the chest. The attacker ran away but was later arrested by the police.

The victim told the police that she was talking to a friend about paying the debt on 12 January when the attacker arrived at her home in 2nd Street in Wynberg.

When she went to her room to fetch the money, the attacker followed and allegedly stabbed her as she was handing an R50 note to him. He grabbed the cash and fled but was arrested after the incident was reported at the Alex Police Station.

The victim went to a local clinic for treatment.

In the same week, two suspects were also arrested in connection with two allegations of murder, and two charges of attempted murder.
