Tigers to be turned into menu in Alex Year-End final

ALEXANDRA - Gauteng FC U20 team will come face to face with Alex Royal Tigers SC in the final of the Year-End Seniors Tournament.

A solitary goal from the boot of Siyabonga Yekeni in the second half of the game against Gunners FC was enough to secure Gauteng FC U20 a final date with Alex Royal Tigers SC on 16 December.

The thrilling game in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Year-End Seniors Tournament played at the Alexandra Stadium was characterised by missed opportunities.

Gauteng’s enterprising player, Ntokozo Nkosi was denied an opportunity to put his team 2–0 up when a Gunners player deflected his goal-bound strike. At the other end, Gauteng goalie Tshepo Linda kept his team in the lead when he made a brilliant save to deny Gunners an equaliser which would have sent the teams into a penalty shootout.

Nkosi was denied another opportunity when his free kick on the edge of the box was parried over the crossbar.

In the dying minutes of the game, Gunners’ Dlozi Ndaba fluffed another of their many scoring chances when his control let him down with only the keeper to beat and the ball was easily collected by Gauteng’s goal minder.

Speaking after the final whistle, winning Gauteng stand-in skipper Nkosingiphile Makhathini said he was confident they would successfully defend the trophy.

“I can assure you that the hunter [Tigers] will become the hunted in the final. Tigers will be on our menu on the day,” Makhathini said.

Tigers coach Tiger Matholengwe said his team would pull a surprise on the day. “We know their danger men and we have already hatched a plan to close them down and pounce on their goals,” he said.

“Fans can come and enjoy beautiful football.”
