Lovers’ tiff ends in arson

ALEXANDRA – 'Cheater' burns lover's clothes and smashes her phones.

 

Alex police are investigating a case of arson, assault and malicious damage to property after a lovers’ tiff.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the victim, who lives on 15th Avenue, was visiting a friend at 8.30pm on 11 November when her boyfriend arrived.

He left shortly afterwards and went to his vehicle which was parked outside. When the victim went out to join him, she found him in the company of another woman. She left them and went home in a taxi.

When the boyfriend started looking for her, he found her leaving her place with her clothes in a bag. He went into the house and came out with paraffin which he poured on the bag of clothes, her ID and R400 cash before allegedly setting it alight. He allegedly assaulted her after smashing her two cell phones and then claimed that he had bought the burnt items. The damage was estimated at R15 000.
