Alex coach on cloud nine following league win

ALEXANDRA – The LRC FC are the new champions of the U13 Alex League after dethroning two-time champions Alex Royal Tigers SC.

Love Reaching Community Football Club coach Bandile Thindleni is over the moon following the crowning of his U13 team as champions of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association U13 League for the 2017 season.

They disposed of 2015 and last year’s champions Alex Royal Tigers SC which is owned by 20-year-old Tiger Matholengwe.

The league championship comes hot on the heels of the club winning the Maimane Alfred Phiri (Map) Games last June and the team has now put its focus on the Year-End Tournament currently underway and jointly sponsored by the association and the Alexandra Masters Soccer League.

Thindleni said he was proud of his boys who finished on 52 points from 20 games and only lost two and drew one.

Their nearest rivals were United Stars on 51 points.

The club was formed in 2015 and Thindleni said the achievement was a milestone in such a short time after a bronze medal finish in their maiden season last year.

“I am delighted we managed to achieve this milestone, following our victory in the Map Games. I have now put my focus and that of the team on winning the Year-End Tournament, and I will have achieved the goals I set myself when I accepted the offer to coach this team.”

Asked for his recipe for success, Thindleni said it was nothing more than simply believing in themselves as a team comprising players and the technical staff, and working as a unit with passion and enthusiasm.

“That’s my recipe and nothing more,” he added.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the club Jacob Setshedi said they had not yet been handed the trophy as promised after the final game which was played on 4 November. “I am still waiting for the Local Football Association to award us the trophy but so there has been no communication from them.”

The association’s secretary general Mafika Morajane said it was unfortunate the club had decided to complain to the media instead of coming to them for an explanation.

“We have not awarded the trophies for the simple reason that we have not finished the fixture, and once that was done, we will then award them their trophy. This happens year-in, year-out and before the end of the year, we shall present the trophies,” Morajane said.
