ALEXANDRA – Youth robber with toy gun sentenced to three years with 12 suspended.

A robber (18) was sentenced by Alex Magistrates’ Court on 19 September to three years’ imprisonment with an additional of 12 years suspended for five years for robbery.

Karabo Konkhe of Tembisa, with an accomplice who is still at large, was found guilty by Magistrate Renier Boshoff for robbing a man they met on Old Pretoria Road, Midrand at 3pm on 2 September as the victim walked home from work. The accused held the victim up by gunpoint and asked the victim how much money he was carrying. When he declined having any, they searched and took R200 in cash from his pockets.

Konkhe then ordered the victim to run and to not look back. After some distance, the victim stopped and alerted a Metro police vehicle. They followed in the direction of the robbers with the victim and found the accused walking alone. He was stopped, searched and found in possession of R200 in cash, a firearm suspected to have been the robbery weapon and four cellphones which he could not produce ownership of.

Konkhe claimed to be a student and the gun was found to be a toy.
