Durbanites the best fans

JOBURG - The MTN8 final will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban will host this year’s MTN8 final between SuperSport United and Cape Town City on 14 October.

This will be a record fourth time that this Fifa 2010 South Africa World Cup venue will be hosting this lucrative cup final, more than any other stadium in the country.

Last year’s final was played at the Mbombela Stadium in Mbombela, Mpumalanga and the last time Moses Mabhida Stadium played host was in the sold-out final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates which was won by abafana

bokuthula noxolo, as Chiefs are fondly known to their faithful supporters.

While City will be making their first appearance in the MTN8 final since their arrival on the football scene last year, matsatsantsa a pitori, the affectionate name by which SuperSport is known in Pretoria, have been down this road before when they finished runners-up to Moroka Swallows in 2012 at the Orlando Stadium.

The Premier Soccer League’s acting CEO Mato Madlala has confirmed that ticket prices for the final will be R40 for adults and R15 for children under the age of 12 years.

“We have no doubt that in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, we will watch high quality football between two sides, SuperSport United and Cape Town City,” he said.

Madlala added that there had been a lot of back-and-forth consultation in the past few days between the PSL, sponsors MTN and the two clubs to ensure the final goes to a venue that will cater and serve the purpose of the occasion.

This is a pat on the back for Durbanites, who have shown enthusiastic support for football, more than any other fans in the country.

The venue first played host in 2010 in the final between Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows and returned again in 2013 for the decider between dikwena as Platinum Stars are known to their fans and the Buccaneers.

MTN’s Mapula Bodibe was equally excited with the choice of Moses Mabhida Stadium. “We’re taking the game to the people, and most importantly, to the enthusiastic Durbanites.”
