Skeen take three points without kicking a ball in anger

ALEXANDRA - The Discovery Alex U12 Schools League goes into its second week.

Skeen Primary School boys soccer team started the defence of their Discovery Alex U12 Schools League title with the easiest of tasks.

They were awarded a walkover into the next round of the competition when their opponents, Gordon Primary School failed to honour this opening fixture of the tournament.

No reason or explanation was offered by Gordon and in accordance with the regulations governing the tournament, Skeen was awarded a 3–0 walkover. This puts them in pole position in the defence of their title as the kings of Alex primary schools football.

In their next game, Skeen will collide with an unpredictable Ekukhanyisweni Primary School, who beat Bovet Primary School 3–0.

In other ties, Zenzeleni Primary School banged four past a hapless Ithute Primary School, without reply. Champions of the 2015 season, and MC Weiler Primary School slumped to 1–0 defeat at the hands of Emfundisweni Primary School.

Two-time champions, Iphutheng Primary School played to a 2–2 draw against perennial pretenders to the throne, Dr Knak Primary School, who are always knocked out in the semis of the tournament.

The whipping boys of the league, DH Carter Primary School opened their account in the tournament on a sour note when they were beaten 2–0 by Ikage Primary School.

In the girls section, defending champions MC Weiler Primary School was the biggest scorers, annihilating Skeen Primary School 7–0, thereby sending a clear message of their intentions in the tournament.

Hot on their heels in the scoring charts was Zenzeleni Primary School who flattened Bovet Primary School 6–0. If these early scorelines are anything to go by, there could be an MC Weiler vs Zenzeleni clash in the final.

Ekukhanyisweni Primary School got the better of Gordon Primary School with a 3–0 win while Iphutheng Primary School and Dr Knak Primary School were deadlocked 1–1.

The same happened to Ikage Primary School and Carter Primary School, the tie ending 1–1, while Ithute Primary School got the better of Emfundisweni Primary School with a solitary goal.
