Gang allegedly robs good samaritan

ALEXANDRA – Goodness begets badness for a Good Samaritan.

An Alex man’s Good Samaritan gesture backfired when he was allegedly robbed of money and groceries by a gang, including a woman, he was trying to help.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred at 4pm on 29 August near Pan Africa Mall. The victim who was walking behind the woman picked a packet which she had dropped and ran after her with the intention to give it back to her.

Before he could get to her, two men caught up with him and accused him of stealing the packet. They forced him into a VW Polo which was parked nearby. As they drove with him, they picked up the woman he was trying to help and another man.

They stopped at an intersection where they let him out of the vehicle after stealing his groceries, cellphone and passport all valued at R1 400.
