The spring of crime

ALEXANDRA – Police have been inundated with crimes during the first week of spring.

 

Alex police were kept busy with arrests and taking reports dominated by assault cases during the week ending 3 September.

Their spokesperson, captain Allie Kodisang Police said 64 suspects were arrested with 26 for assaults, followed by 14 for drunk or drug-influenced driving and three were for rape. Also, 22 priority crime cases, including murder and rape and 62 others including attempted murder, were reported and are being investigated.

The arrests were:

  • 3 for rape
  • 12 for common assault
  • 14 for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 1 for robbery aggravating
  • 1 for common robbery
  • 1 for residential burglary
  • 1 for business burglary
  • 3 for shop lifting
  • 1 for general theft
  • 1 for fraud
  • 3 for malicious damage to property
  • 8 for illegal drug possession or use
  • 2 for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition
  • 14 drunken driving
  • 3 for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.

Priority crimes reported were:

  • 3 for murder
  • 2 for rape
  • 2 for theft of trucks
  • 1 for motor vehicle hijacking
  • 5 for residential burglary
  • 1 for business burglary
  • 1 for house robbery
  • 7 for robbery with a firearm.

Other reported crimes were:

  • 2 for attempted murder
  • 9 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 27 for common assault
  • 1 for robbery using another form of weapon
  • 2 for common robbery
  • 4 for theft from a motor vehicle
  • 4 for malicious damage to property
  • 12 for general theft
  • 1 for fraud.
