Women’s Day brings women together for tea

KEW - Women motivate and inspire each other during a high tea meeting on Women's Day in Alex.

Chris Embassy Alexandra in partnership with uLwazi Lwami Leadership Project for Women held a high tea party at the old Banakekeleni Centre on Women’s Day.

The get-together was held so that women could discuss challenges among themselves, motivate each other and also have a good time. Organiser, Nomvula Phiri said the reason for the party was to address challenges that women faced. “There are certain topics that are not covered in church so this was the perfect platform for us to discuss some of our challenges,” Phiri said.

Some of the topics on the programme included careers, keeping a marriage alive and advice on how to ‘get up after falling’. It was also an opportunity for attendees to expose their businesses to each other, from selling pots and baking to selling jewellery. The women also encouraged each other about ways to start businesses and shared ideas on ways to build their careers.

Phiri said uLwazi Lwami was a leadership programme for young women, where they could be uplifted, groomed and motivated. It gave career guidance and motivational talks in townships.
