Nhlapo quits the Clever Boys for Matsatsantsa

JOBURG – SuperSport United beef-up their squad with two new signings.

SuperSport United have announced the arrival of Bafana Bafana full back Siyabonga Nhlapo after concluding a three-year permanent transfer deal for the player from Bidvest Wits.

Nhlapo, who was in action for Bafana Bafana in the Championship of African Nations qualifier against Botswana last week comes in as a replacement for Michael Boxall who was released earlier this month.

With more than 70 league appearances for the Clever Boys over the past four seasons, and a short loan spell at Highlands Park, Nhlapo brings added experience to the Pretoria team.

Club CEO Stan Matthews described Nhlapo as a player ‘we have been watching for a few seasons now’.

“We have watched how well he did at Bidvest Wits, playing a major role in their 3rd and 2nd placed finishes in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, and with Grant Kekana doing so well in our last few games last season we look forward to the contest for the right back spot,” said Matthews.

Matsatsanta A Pitori (the bourgeoisie of Pretoria), as SuperSport are known to their fans, has concluded another signing, the free-scoring young Zimbabwe international striker Prince Dube of Zimbabwe’s Highlanders, on a four-year deal.

Matthews said the dynamic Dube had netted eight goals in 12 games for the Highlanders this season, a scoring spree which has seen him being called up to the Zimbabwe national team where he was again on the scoresheet over the weekend against Namibia.

“He has good technique, pace and skill and can play both centrally and wide,” said Matthews of Dube.

“He may not be displacing [Jeremy] Brockie or [Bradley] Grobler this season but he has the makings of a top attacking player and we look forward to seeing how Eric [Tinkler] progresses with him moving forward.”
