Alex children get to feel a snake and a baby croc

ALEXANDRA - Alex children spend some time with crocodiles and snakes.

More than 20 young boys from the Phuthaditjhaba Community Centre were treated to a fun-filled Hero for a Day event at the Croc City Crocodile and Reptile Park in Fourways.

VC Heroes for a Day is just one of Varsity College Sandton’s community engagement initiatives aimed at instilling a sense of good citizenship in its greater student body.

The boys aged six years and upwards were honoured for the courage they have shown in their challenging circumstances, which are, in some instances, being orphaned and vulnerable.

Varsity College Sandton student relations manager Vasanthee Govender praised the young boys after the event for their bravery.

“They really deserved a fun day out. The boys really fit into the true VC Heroes,” she said, adding the day was rewarding and selfless for the Varsity students and staff members alike.

The excursion included an educational talk on the reptiles at the park, a tour of the crocodiles at the facility, a touch and feel of snake and croc skin, a picture with a baby croc and the touching of a python.

Govender said the boys were really amazed by the reptiles they saw and so brave that they wanted to see more.

At the end of the excursion, each boy was honoured with a gold hero medal for a great demonstration of their strength and courage as well as a lunch.
