Zenzeleni Primary School embarrasses Alex schools football

Alex primary schools football was not only embarrassed by Zenzeleni Primary School’s age cheating scandal at the Danone Nations Cup Gauteng finals, but also by the team’s failure to secure even a single win in their maiden appearance in the competition.

Zenzeleni was accused of forging documents of two of their over-age players and was summarily disqualified from the competition. The team were allowed to continue to play in a friendly format just to allow the children to enjoy the beautiful game at WJ Clements Stadium in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni.

Organisers felt it was not the children’s fault for the presentation of false documents and hence they could not be punished for the devious intentions of their handlers and were allowed to play their last two matches after the discovery of the forgery.

Zenzeleni played Florida Avenue Primary School from Eldorado Park and the Alex side was beaten 3–1 on penalties after a 0–0 stalemate at the end of the mandatory 20 minutes of play.

Their second match was against the eventual champions of Gauteng, Arcon Park Primary School from Vereeniging, who beat the Alex outfit 3–0. Zenzeleni’s final game was against Reddam House Primary School of Bedfordview which they lost 1–3.

Zenzeleni only managed to score two goals in the whole tournament and the team looked disjointed, possibly overawed by the fact that it was their first appearance in the tournament.

Even their prolific captain Knowledge Masuluke, who did so well banging in the goals in the annual Discovery Alex U12 Schools League late last year and leading his school to a silver medal, appeared to be at sixes and sevens.

Masuluke was the scorer of their only goal in regulation time against Reddam House.
