Pastor’s message causes friction between couple, girlfriend assaulted

ALEXANDRA – Boyfriend assaults lover over a message from her pastor.

A suspect who didn’t take kindly to a cellphone message from a pastor to his girlfriend was arrested for allegedly assaulting her with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred at 6.30am on 9 April at the pair’s 1st Avenue home as she was preparing to go to work. The suspect, who was checking her phone seemingly for messages, asked her about one from her church’s pastor. When she explained that it was a group communication to all congregants about a meeting, the suspect was infuriated, called her ‘a bitch’ and allegedly struck her on the head with a brick.

A neighbour alerted to the incident took away the couple’s child for safety. After the assault, the victim still left for work and the suspect allegedly remained behind tearing up some of her clothes.
