Suspect helps stranded motorist in Alex and then steals his car

ALEXANDRA – Suspect wanted for fleeing in a stolen car after helping the victim to start it.

 

A Midrand motorist’s vehicle was allegedly stolen on 15th Avenue in Alex by a suspect who sped off in it after helping to start it.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the vehicle, a grey Audi A4 with registration number TMV286GP, was stolen at about 5pm on 28 March.

According to Kodisang, the victim was having difficulty starting the vehicle and asked two men to help push his vehicle. The suspect arrived and volunteered to get into the driver’s seat and help start the vehicle while the owner helped push.

When the vehicle started, the suspect sped off in the vehicle and the victim gave chase but in vain.

The vehicle is worth R120 000 and does not have a tracker system.

In the vehicle was the victim’s wallet with R500 in cash, driver’s licence, bank cards and also a laptop and cellphone.
