‘Don’t take eviction into own hands’ says Housing MMC

JOHANNESBURG – Housing MMC Mzobanzi Ntuli has appealed to property owners to report illegal occupants and not take eviction into their own hands.

Housing MMC councillor Mzobanzi Ntuli has appealed to property owners to follow proper channels and report any unlawful occupation of vacant property to the City.

Ntuli said that while it was within the property owners’ rights to seek the eviction of illegal occupiers, they should first bring the matter to the attention of City officials who would take the necessary steps to find a lasting solution.

“To evict illegal occupiers without due process and notification to the City worsens the City’s already desperate housing challenges and results in avoidable human tragedy,” Ntuli said.

The City currently faces a backlog of 300 000 housing units.

“I am also happy to announce that my department has finalised the City’s housing list. The list is currently being audited to ensure that it is beyond scrutiny. In the next few months, the list will be made available to the public,” concluded Ntuli.

Details: Report illegal land occupation to Metro police on 011 758 9622.
