Pholosho launches book on Kgalema Motlanthe

ALEXANDRA - Motlanthe hailed as visionary for social change and repository of wisdom.

Former State President Kgalema Motlanthe is an epitome of wisdom, simplicity and a voice for social change whose approach to life and selflessness inspired the writing of the book, The Story of Kgalema Motlanthe.

This was said by author Mukanda Mulemfo at Pholosho Junior Primary School when launching the book which he said was part of a series of illustrative readers and letters written in simple and user-friendly language on the contribution of several mainly African leaders like Thabo Mbeki, Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea’s Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the USA’s Barack Obama and the late Olof Palme of Sweden.

Mulemfo said the books were to inspire the resurgence of interest in integrating more African literature from an early age to give African children a solid background to their education by including their histories and cultures.

“This will help them to engage in any dialogue on the story of the world, global knowledge systems and for the holistic development and understanding of their traditions, customs and mythologies which define their daily lives,” Mulemfo stressed.

Urging people not to judge a book by its cover, Mulemfo said the series were written in simple but rich language and were not bulky in order to encourage a culture of reading. It contextualised the reality of Africa into learning, celebrated the achievements of African leaders and should resonate well with anyone who was eager to integrate African knowledge systems into learning. The Gauteng Department of Education was considering the series for its reading campaign, he said

The production of the series started in 2009 and is done in partnership with Swedish support agencies.
