Local beauty makes Alex proud in Miss SA competition

ALEXANDRA – Local girl makes big strides as she becomes the first person from the township to make it to the top three in the Miss South Africa contest.

Alexandra’s own Boipelo Mabe has made the township proud by taking third place during the crowning of Miss South Africa 2017 at a glittering ceremony held at Sun City on 26 March.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss South Africa 2017. The first runner-up was Adè van Heerden from the Western Cape who was crowned first princess and Mabe second princess.

An excited and overwhelmed 21-year-old Demi-Leigh from Sedgefield in the Western Cape, said she was determined to make a difference during her reign.

Mabe made history as the first ever contestant from Alexandra to enter the competition and go all the way through to the finals and emerge as the second princess after a tough judging process.

Her success was largely buoyed by her warm welcome from the pupils of Pholosho Junior Secondary School during her visit there as a semifinalist late last year.
