Officers from the Metro K9 Unit recovered a silver Polo in Alexandra on 10th Avenue at around 8pm on 11 March.
The Polo was hijacked in the driveway of a house in Parktown just after 6pm on the same night.
According to Edna Mamonyane, spokesperson for Metro police, it was discovered that three armed suspects were waiting for the owner of the house to arrive home with the Polo. They then pistol-whipped the victim and fled with the car.
“Cars which get hijacked or stolen often get parked in secluded areas in case police follow a tracker signal, as in this situation. The officers followed information from a tracker signal which led them to where the car was located,” explained Mamonyane.

No arrests were made as the suspects did not return to the car and the Polo was towed to the Aeroton Police Pound for further investigation.
A stolen blue Polo, a hijacked white Mercedes Benz and a white Audi were also recovered in the same way on the same day.
