Varsity College Sandton donates mobile library to Afrika Tikkun Early Childhood Development Centre
ALEXANDRA – Thanks to the generous donation of a mobile library by Varsity College Sandton, children of Afrika Tikkun will now learn how to read, as well as learn to love it.
The Afrika Tikkun Early Childhood Development Centre in Alexandra’s Phuthaditjhaba Centre recently received a mobile library from Varsity College Sandton.
This mobile library stocks 250 books in a variety of literary genres and is aimed at schoolchildren in the foundational phase of their education. The donation was made possible by a variety of Varsity College Sandton’s fundraising activities conducted last year.
Donor relations officer of Africa Tikkun, Taina Lubner was enthusiastic about the mobile library and expressed her gratitude. “This is a very exciting day for us here at Afrika Tikkun. Thank you for the books. We want the students to read as much as they can, so this donation will certainly grant them that opportunity.
“We are glad that the students now have access to information, which will give them knowledge; this library will be part of the students’ academic growth.”
The college’s vice principal for scholar services, Vasanthee Govender, was pleased with the support received from select sponsors which take part annually in the college’s charity initiatives. “With the help of our title sponsor, Dynamic Freight, we are pleased to have raised funds for the Nali’Bali Reading Project.
“Community engagement is an integral part of the college and hosting various fundraising activities to purchase the mobile library was an immensely rewarding effort on the part of the college.”
The college is looking forward to yet another successful year where it will raise funds for the Qhubeka Bicycles Project, which allows donors to help scholars who walk long distances, to school receive bicycles.
