Rape suspect arrested, two more at large

ALEXANDRA – Taxi driver who claimed to be a dangerous ex-con tricks woman into allowing him into her room and allegedly rapes her.

Alex police have arrested a taxi driver in connection with an alleged rape that took place at about at 9pm on 3 February.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the taxi driver and the victim had first met in the morning when he gave her a lift to the Pan Africa Mall and she had asked if he knew of a room she could rent.

After showing her the room that afternoon, the taxi driver and a friend of his took her to her place. But the friend drove off while the driver was helping her carry her groceries. Once inside her room, he sat on the sofa, but when she asked him to leave he allegedly threatened her, telling her he was a dangerous ex-convict.

In another incident, a woman was having beers at her sister’s place in 2nd Avenue on 1 February when she got into a fight and a man offered to take her home. But as they were walking, he allegedly grabbed her, choked her, threatened to kill her, and raped her on the pavement without a condom, despite her cries and pleas for him to stop. When he was done, he apologised and walked away. She was treated at the Alex Clinic. The man is still at large.
