Robber nabbed with victims’ items

ALEXANDRA – Motorist helps victims apprehend robber.

A suspect from Diepsloot was remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation for the alleged armed robbery of two victims.

On 4 January, the suspects allegedly approached a man and a woman on a bridge near the Boulders Shopping Centre in Midrand and robbed them of a bag containing a laptop, modem, hard drive, identity documents and other items.

One of the suspects allegedly threatened the victims with a knife.

The male victim ran away, however, when he heard the woman screaming after allegedly being stabbed, he returned and handed over the bag to the suspects.

After the suspects fled the scene, the victims went to their nearby home, changed clothes and returned to trace the suspects.

They flagged down a motorist who helped them track and apprehend one of the suspects, who was still nearby and in possession of the bag and its contents.

Alex police officers were called to the scene and arrested the suspect.

The suspect’s accomplice is still at large and is wanted by the police.

Details: Alexandra Police Station 011 321 7600.
