Jilted man assaults lover

ALEXANDRA – Rejected man awaits trial for beating ex-lover.

A male suspect, who admitted to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, was granted bail of R500 by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and ordered not to contact or harass the victim.

He will reappear in court soon for sentencing. The incident occurred at midday on 13 December last year at the victim’s Alex home. The 26-year-old suspect went to the victim’s home and allegedly took exception when she told him she was ending their abusive relationship and that he should leave the house. The suspect then allegedly produced a knife and tried to stab her but she fended him off and ran outside. He allegedly then followed, caught her and punched her in the face but she broke free and ran into a neighbour’s house.

The suspect left and she returned to her place but he allegedly returned with a gun. When she refused to let him in, he allegedly fired shots and threw the gun into the house through an open window. The victim said she refused to give him back the gun, which prompted him to enter the house through the window. She again ran off to the neighbour’s home. Police were called and arrested the suspect.

The victim claimed that the suspect had often abused and beaten her.
