Woman robbed of R55 000 stokvel money

ALEXANDRA – Despite police warning, woman robbed of R55 000 stokvel money at home.

An Alex woman was allegedly robbed at her home in the early morning of 8 December last year by unknown suspects. They stole her stokvel dividend of R55 000.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said they are investigating the incident. He said the victim was sleeping with her children when she felt her blankets being moved. When she awoke and saw the suspects, she tried to scream but one of them told her to keep quiet and demanded money. She pointed to a plastic bag containing the money, which they allegedly took and then left after threatening to shoot her if she screamed.

The incident happened after this paper ran warnings by the police for residents to be vigilant over the festive season, in particular with their stokvel dividends. Colonel Johannes Tau, commander of the Alex Visible Policing unit had urged residents to draw small amounts of money for their immediate use.
