IRS Forensic Investigations recently made representations to the Chief Prosecutor of the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court to have charges of kidnapping brought against the men found guilty of possessing personal property belonging to the missing businessman, Nazeer Mohammed.
The two men found in possession of Mohammed’s two vehicles and cellphone were sentenced to six years in jail on 29 August.
Robert Nembaka and Rotshidzwa Netshiavha were convicted in November last year of stealing Mohammed’s cellphone, Toyota Corolla and Opel Astra registered to Mohammed’s car dealership.
Glenda Paul, director of IRS Forensic Investigations, said that she, along with her team, would not rest until those responsible for Mohammed’s disappearance were brought to book.
“We have worked with the South African Police Services Victim Identification Unit on this case and are following up on all leads regarding the alleged kidnapping,” said Paul.
IRS was approached by Yusuf Abramjee, a leader in the South African Muslim community and ex-head of LeadSA, PriMedia and Crime Stop, who wanted to assist the Mohammed family with the case.
IRS is still waiting for a response from the Chief Prosecutor of the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, as according to Paul, IRS found several discrepancies in the investigation conducted by the lead investigator.
Paul added that the accused allegedly chose to remain silent about the disappearance of Mohammed as it is not to their benefit to provide any information as it could implicate them in a far more serious crime.
“We request that the investigation be reinstated or alternatively that the case is escalated to the DPCI for review.”
