Man loses car to armed hijackers

ALEXANDRA – Hijackers leave a man and his girlfriend stranded on the street.

Alex police are investigating the hijacking of a Ford Ikon which occurred at about 5.40pm on 10 November in the Far East Bank.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the 38-year-old victim was with his girlfriend in the vehicle parked outside her home when he saw a man coming towards them from behind. As he passed, the man suddenly opened the driver’s door which wasn’t locked. He (the suspect) produced a knife and ordered the victim to hand over everything he had. The suspect then searched the victim and took his wallet with R600 in cash, his driver’s licence, bank cards and a Samsung cellphone. Another suspect also entered the vehicle from the back seat. He also searched the victim but found nothing.

The first suspect then ordered the victim and girlfriend out of the vehicle, and three more suspects joined them and drove away leaving the couple stranded. The vehicle which was not insured or had a tracker was worth R80 000.
